Ballerinas in watercolour by David Wilcox B.A

David Wilcox Demonstration September 28th

David gave the first demonstration of our new season with a relatively unusual use of watercolour, to produce a large formal painting of figures, namely ballerinas.

Below are comments from 3 of our members who attended with images from 2.

David Wilcox was an excellent demonstrator. He undertook a complex subject (3 ballet dancers posing as a group) working with his board upright on an easel, in watercolour. He encountered a number of problems resulting from this, yet somehow he managed to pull it all together at the finish. He was an engaging speaker too and kept his audience well informed as he worked.

Quirky but a good demo of how to construct a water colour. Some of his prints are astonishingly good. Enjoyed the evening.

The artist who had previously done his drawing of the three models worked on his negative spaces and then moved on to the task of painting the three models. He lived with the mistakes which he made and finished his painting with a reasonable likeness to the original. He was not afraid to apply lots of paint.
